Our History

Our beginnings

Quality Plated Plastics formed in 1965 as Plated Plastic Developments, this was a small subsidiary of an injection moulding company. Plated Plastic Developments became one of the first companies in the UK to be able to electroplate onto plastic mouldings using a manually operated plant. As business grew the company was separated from the moulding operation and the plant automated. In 1991 the company was bought by the Qualtronic Group as part of their finishing division operating on two sites in Tipton and Great Barr, specialising in electromagnetic shielding and decorative plating.

Following a management buyout in 2001 the company consolidated on the Great Barr site allowing the company to continue to establish itself as market leader in the non-automotive sector. As part of its continuing growth the company bought the adjacent property in 2005 and during 2007 began installing a “state of the art” POP Plating plant designed and constructed by Process Automation Ltd. The plant was finally commissioned in July 2008 and started production in the November. This plant has enabled the company to meet the high level of quality demanded by both the Automotive and non-automotive markets.

During 2012 the company made a great deal of investment in plant upgrades to enable it to treble its output of Satin finishes to accommodate the increase in demand for this finish and in 2013 set up a joint venture to grow its moulding facility. At the end of 2014 they created an on-site moulding facility specifically designed to "mould for plating" and currently have five Negri Bossi presses, ranging from 55T to 500T.
